Greece on the Verge of Bankruptcy: What will be the consequences of it for the European currency?

I know bankruptcy did not exist in ancient Greece but

We all know there's a lot of talk about the declining dollar, but might we better be worrying about the euro. Greece may finally be reaching the end of its ability to borrow at any price and what the euro zone does about this crisis may determine whether the euro ultimately survives.

Why do we have to pay our debts back to European countries. They have funded our country during the last 30 years by the money of their tax payers. I read Merkel supports Greece but our biggest debt is to Germany so why don't Germans and other Europeans wipe off debt?

|||No consequence. If you think about it greece as all of us now is a small country.A bankcrupcy won't decrease the euros worth, while a new upcoming country with another currency will.China let's say.OF course all this except if it changes to euros, resulting in the excactly opposite.|||we are malakas|||The following excerpts from Der Spiegel's article pretty much sums it up:

In any case, the EU cannot push Greece out of the euro zone and leave the country up to its own devices, although the Greeks did cheat their way into the common currency club with the aid of fudged budget figures, as Axel Weber, president of Germany's central bank, the Bundesbank, recently made clear at a board meeting.

And this:

There is also a lack of trust in Greek promises within the EU. All too often in the past the Greeks have vowed to make improvements. In Berlin and Brussels politicians are increasingly grappling with the question of how to effectively help the Greeks.

So actually Greece created it by herself and the rest of the EU ignored the situation. Let them clean their own mess now. The EU project, from head to toe has always been a semi-stillborn baby in my opinion. Allowing countries like Portugal, Greece and Baltic states inside, hastily (and as stated above, Greece could only fraudulently joined in the EURO zone) was a political decision but never economical, especially in the case of Baltic states.

Tho, no one get me wrong, i'm not such kind of a sadist who would sit back and enjoy Greece's demise. I hope you'll recover for the sake of everyone.
